Maxairado village is known for the 14th-сentury сhurch of Agia Mavra, one of the oldest churches on the island with its Venetian bell tower and splendid frescoes and icons. Celebrations in honor of Agia Mavra usually take place the first weekend of July, when the whole town gets together to dance in traditional customs and eat delicious food.
