Maleme is located in the western part of the island of Crete, 16 km from Chania, 2 km from the large resort of Platanias and is part of a large tourist area, starting from Chania and going west to Kolymbari.
Maleme offers a beautiful beach and developed tourist infrastructure. Besides enjoying the sea, you will have large number of options for excursions and entertainment.
Maleme is next to Platanias, which has very vibrant nightlife, so any time you will be able to choose between privacy and entertainment in the neighboring town. In addition, in a few minutes you will be able to get to the beautiful city of Chania, one of the most beautiful old towns in Crete. Also, you can explore the west coast of the island of Crete, the lagoon of Balos, Elafonisi, or spend a romantic evening enjoying the sunset at Falassarna. Maleme beach is amazing it is wide, sandy and rather long. You can stroll along the shore and get to the point where further walking is prohibited because of the military facilities.
In whole, the beach is not organized, there are no umbrellas and sunbeds but the area along the shoreline in front of cafes and hotels.
The western part of the beach of Maleme is almost empty. In addition, trees can help you escape from the scorching sun in their shadow. So this place is a wonderful choice for those who love beach holidays.
