Neighborhood
The village of Plakias is located on the southern coast of Crete, 35 km from Rethymno. Until the 70s of the XX century, the village has no more than 10 houses - it was a small fishing harbor. Today, this is quite a big tourist destination.
Plakias is the administrative center of the municipality of Finikas, named after the second-largest palm forest in Crete - Preveli, located nearby. The bay of Preveli can be reached by excursion boat from Plakias directly, either by car following the signs to the Monastery of Preveli.
Plakias Bay has a semicircular shape. The beach is sandy and very well equipped - deck chairs, showers, changing rooms - all this you can find along the beach, the length of which is more than a kilometer. Plakias Beach is marked with Blue Flag - the international environmental quality mark. The eastern part of the beach is called Paligremnos - this is a popular place for nudists. On the west side of the village there is another beach - Skinos, with rocky entry into the water, so this part of the beach is suitable for fishing rather than for swimming.
