While spending time in Corfu, you should definitely try the local cuisine - seafood dishes, Greek wines, cheese, olives and fragrant honey. You can independently explore the Byzantine fortresses - Old and New (Sea and Coastal), which house a museum and a naval base. The Cathedral and its marvelous icons dating back to the 16th century, the Church of St. Spyridon, the patron saint of Corfu, the summer palace of Elisabeth of Austria on Achillio Hill in the village of Gastouri - all these sights will give a very special pleasure if you admire them away from the crowds of tourists. Corfu is rich in monuments of ancient architecture like no other Greek island. This is Paleokastritsa - the monastery of ancient Christians, and Pantokrator - the highest point of the island, and the ancient outposts of Gardiki and Angelokastro. And all this is surrounded by olive groves, citrus thickets, many flowers and shrubs. There is also a piece of Paris in Corfu - the prototype of Rue de Rivoli, Liston Street - the focus of the island's social life, where fashionable boutiques and restaurants are located at every turn. The beaches of Corfu deserve special attention - diverse, composed of fine white sand, often replete with caves, grottoes and branched tunnels, picturesque and unique, but always equally beautiful in their original splendor or in the harmoniously created comfort of civilization. Even the most sophisticated traveler will be able to find his own piece of paradise in Corfu, whether it be a secluded beach, noisy and crowded towns, sea voyages around the islands of the Ionian Sea, cultural heritage or ancient architectural monuments.
