Sithonia, Chalkidiki
Nikiti - one of the most important towns of Sithonia. This is a typical lively Greek village, visited by many tourists during the season. Picturesque landscapes, pine forests, olive groves and stunningly beautiful beaches attract tourists from all over the world.
The village has a well-developed tourist infrastructure: cheap and luxury hotels and apartments for rent, car rental, ATMs, travel agencies, water sports, etc. There are many restaurants, taverns, coffee shops, Internet cafes and entertainment for children along the waterfront. There is a port where you can rent a boat.
Nikiti is famous for its honey (20% of Greek honey is produced here). You can find many shops offering more than 20 varieties of honey for every taste. For more than 600 years Nikiti is one of the largest centers for the production of honey in Europe.
Stroll through the old part of the village and explore the historic settlements, where the locals still live, or enjoy a coffee in one of the oldest taverns on the main square and try to imagine this place hundreds of years ago.
Historical monuments in Nikiti:
- Early Christian Sofronios Basilica is currently under restoration, but you can see a mosaic floor and impressive carved drawings dating from the 5th century.
- Old Chapel of St. George (18th century).
- Early Christian church in Elia (5th century).
- The ruins of St. Mary's Church, located in the village cemetery (paintings of the late 16th century).
