Almyrida Beach is located 23 km east of Chania, on the southern shores of Souda Bay, and 1 km west of the village of Plaka. It is a quiet resort with necessary facilities and superb sea. Unspoilt countryside and lush olive groves around Almyrida are ideal for walks.
The picturesque village of Plaka, which is the largest village in the region, can be found just 1 km to the east. Plaka is known for its healthy climate and hospitality of the locals. Numerous sea caves that are scattered around make a rare natural phenomenon. In addition, Plaka is famous for traditional narrow streets and old, well-preserved buildings. Every July the locals celebrate a traditional holiday Plakianos, named after the famous musician Michalis Papadakis.
Almyrida has two nice sandy beaches with shallow sea, ideal for children. These two beaches are separated by a small rocky peninsula with a small white chapel. They are well organized for water sports and windsurfing. Taverns on the shore are known for fresh fish and delicious traditional cuisine. There are regular bus services from Chania and Almyrida.
