Neighborhood
Euboea is a fairly large island. Its territory is only a little bit smaller than the one of Crete.
A distinctive feature of Euboea is its connection to the mainland by a 14-meter bridge. The bridge is located on the Euripus Strait, world-famous for its incredibly fast current - up to eight miles per hour - which may change direction four times a day. The mystery of this outlandish "reversible" course has not yet been solved.
According to ancient legend, the great Greek philosopher Aristotle tried to solve the mystery of the flow, but failed: in the end, he drowned in the waters of the mysterious Euripus.
The area of Euboea is 3684 square km, population - about 190,000 people. The name of the capital is Chalkida. It takes only 88 kilometers from the capital to the city of Athens.
Tourists are attracted by the unique combination of beaches, surrounded by green forests, beautiful mountain gorges with hot mineral springs. The most popular springs among the tourists are Edipsos, Therma, as well as the spring, located near the village of Loutra Edipsou. According to legends, everyone who takes a bath here will gain superhuman strength.
Euboea is popular among those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday at the beach away from the familiar landscape with palm trees. Euboea is covered with mountains. Therefore, you will be amazed by pine and spruce forests, hiding lots of traditional villages, surrounded by orchards.
Many tourists prefer to stay in private houses in these mountain villages. But for those who want to live more comfortably not far from modern civilization, the island of Euboea offers luxurious hotels with all the necessary amenities.
Besides the amazing nature, Euboea attracts tourists by its rich history. After all, here you can see the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the remains of the sanctuary of Dionysus and explore the ancient thermal springs.
In addition to traditional tourist destinations, Greece is known as a region where you can buy gorgeous furs at a price significantly lower than elsewhere. Euboea is of no exception. So if you need a new winter coat - feel free to visit Euboea.
