In the north-east of the city of Ioannina, between the green mountains of Pinda, 46 picturesque villages stretch in a chain, or otherwise Zagorohoria. The word "Zagori" is first mentioned in manuscripts from 1321 and means "beyond the mountains", is one of the many names for mainland Greece that came from the Slavic language. Zagorohoria is famous not only for its natural beauty and unusual architecture, but also for its rich history. Natural beauty, combined with unlimited opportunities for nature outings, hiking, various outdoor activities, impresses and fascinates numerous visitors and visitors. Zagorohoria, with an area of about 1000 km², is geographically divided into 3 parts: Western, Eastern and Central Zagori. Each of them has its own immediate beauty and history. Kipi is a picturesque village in the center of Zagorje, built on a hill and its distance from Ioannina is 39 km. The main notable feature is the gardens, between which a river flows, adorned with stone bridges. Here you will find paved pavements, stone houses, as well as "hayati" (a large internal closed balcony, usually on the south side of the house, a typical element of local architecture), a clock, a high bell tower. The Church of St. Nicholas and the beautiful Agipija Toli Museum, which presents an interesting collection of folklore exhibits, also deserve attention. Of particular interest are the "onda" - part of the dwelling, usually intended for the male population, as well as the famous Kokori Bridge, which has become a favorite filming location for many commercials. In Zagorohoria visitors will see: - The Voidomati River. An Earthly Paradise, as the locals say, with its crystal clear waters and dense sycamore groves surrounding it. - Bridges. At almost every step there are traditional stone bridges that attract the eye with their beauty and excellent architecture. - The unique Viku Gorge, which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the gorge with the smallest gap (about 1100 meters in its narrowest part and at the same time more than 900 meters deep). - In addition, you can visit archaeological sites of great historical value, lakes surrounded by beautiful wildlife, picturesque bridges, as well as museums of particular interest to lovers of history and folk customs. If you love extreme sports, try rafting on the fantastically beautiful Voidomatis River. Its calm waters are suitable even for beginners! In these places, nature lovers can devote time to hiking, mountain climbing, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, paragliding or mountain biking, testing their endurance while enjoying the unique beauty of the landscape.
